D –  Denim Jeans. The perfect go to for weekend brunch to dinner with the girls. Wear with some cute flats during the day and team with your strappy heels for the evening.

E – Embroidery. Embroidery has made a huge appearance this season. You will find small motifs on jeans to fully embroidered bomber jackets. For something a little unique try searching the vintage racks for embroidered 30’s and 40’s numbers.

I – Indulge. Indulge in home cooked meals, hot chocolate, baths or Netflix. Good for the soul.

J – Jumpsuit.  Team with a jacket during the day or flirty with a one shoulder number.

K – Knits. Chunky, Wool, Cashmere or Merino! Add texture to your outfit with a chunky cable knit, or layer in Merino or Cashmere. Embrace the 80’s in a riot of colour or sequins.

L – Layers. Autumn and Winter are all about layering your outfits. Transition your favourite Summer dress by adding a turtle neck and a long line cardigan or a cute blazer on top.

My Style: Holidays, Weekends and Artist Trails

Beach Style

Wearing: Augustine by Kelly Cole, Necklace: Vintage remix by myself

January has been a whirl wind month with our family making the most of the long weekends to get away between clients and festivals. The New Year saw us heading to coastal Opotiki where I  styled hair for a gorgeous 50’s inspired wedding. While we were  in Opotiki we enjoyed the beautiful beaches, relaxed ,read a book or two and did not much!

I picked up this relaxed dress in the Augustine Boxing Day sale. I was attracted to the bold pink, print and the contrasting stripes on the cuff. It turned out to be the perfect choice for lounging around at the beach and traveling. In the winter I will layer it with leggings, boots and my leather jacket.

Casual Style

When I’m in holiday mode I tend to lean towards more relaxed styling with bright and quirky elements.

Wearing: Vintage 70s skirt, worn as a dress

When I saw this printed wrap skirt out thrifting I couldn’t resist it and with the right wrapping, pinning and belting I knew it would make a great summer dress. I like clothing that provides options in my wardrobe and its fun to look at a skirt or shirt and think of new ways to wear it.

Weekend Daily Style

Weekend Style

I spent last weekend on the Raglan Artist Studio Tour with Amy, checking out local art and meeting some local creatives. Amy made me a beautiful porcelain cactus necklace for my birthday so I found some fabric to complement it and sewed my first top in 15 years….don’t judge the stitch !

Style Evolution – Bold, Colour and Vintage

Over the past couple of months I have found myself on a style evolution! You may have noticed on my Instagram feed that I have been incorporating more modern clothing styles into my daily look and brightening up my wardrobe. One friend expressed concern that I didn’t seem to be interested in vintage anymore and was I going through a phase? In short -No, I still adore vintage and retro style but I’m a firm believer that like the evolution of vintage, style and fashion you can mix and mingle vintage styling with more contemporary and modern looks.

Bright colours and interesting prints make me happy, just looking at them makes my heart sing and my soul glow! I surround myself in it with my choices of art, decor, books etc and now I’m taking the plunge, pushing myself and expressing it more in my clothing choices. You could say this is my 2017 new years intention. Dressing with intent, living in colour and pushing my boundaries.

Voodoo Vixen Ally Cat Dress

I love the change of seasons and Autumn holds the promise of cooler mornings and warm afternoons! Perfect weather for fun, flirty dresses like the Voodoo Vixen Ally Cat dress from Two Lippy Ladies. For years I never wore patterns but now I’m quiet fond of kitschy prints and the “Ally Cat” dress features cute bowling pins all over it, a gorgeous red pussy bow and pockets!

Voodoo Vixen Ally Cat Dress

Amy of Chica Chica Boom Chic and I headed out for a day of coffee and shopping so it was the perfect dress to head out in. I’m quiet fond of the red bias binding on the dress so it seemed perfect to team this with red accessories and my red cardigan.

The humidity kicked in after a rain shower and the cotton of the dress was light enough not to become clingy nor crease as we moved around town – there’s nothing worse than looking like you forgot to iron!

Voodoo Vixen Ally Cat Dress

Perfect for layering the Winter too! Just add a merino underneath, Cardigan, tights and cute ankle boots and your rockin!

Banned Apparel Tropical Bird Dress

It was lovely to spend some time catching up with friends this weekend before the next wave of wedding clients hits again! Saturday we got dolled up ( you can see my outfit on instagram ) and headed to Crazy Diamond Burlesque in Hamilton before enjoying some cocktails at Wonderhorse. I’m quite partial to Cherry Sours at the moment..yum! Today Amy and I headed out, got our nails done, grabbed an ice coffee before heading to some beautiful local gardens and enjoying the stunning Autumn day! Our mornings have been quiet crisp and cool but we are still being hit with the Summer heat midday which is nice! I’m looking forward to Winter as its the perfect excuse for delicious wool coats, hats, gloves, boots and stockings.

I wore my new lovely Tropical Bird dress from Banned Apparel available from Two Lippy Ladies today which I think is my new favourite!
